I’ve continued down the path of the underwater theme here in my Wonderland and made a quite plain and straight-forward starfish. I was supposed to embellish it with some blue-purplish pearls, but I couldn’t find my transparent thread anywhere (my Wonderland needs some major cleaning and organizing). Anyway, this is the foundation for the starfish, which you can embellish as much as you like.
You can find the pattern below.
However, if you want to support the Mad Creator (that’s me) and my Creative Wonderland so I can continue creating DIY projects, you’re welcome to purchase a pdf of the Starfish pattern in my store right here.
A Blue cotton yarn.
A 3 mm hook.
A 2,5 mm hook.
The same Blue yarn for stuffing.
Dc: Double Crochet
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Sl st: Slip Stitch
Sc: Single Crochet
Trc: Triple Crochet
WS: Wrong Side
Make 2 of these.
Start with an adjustable ring: Make a ring with yarn. Insert hook into ring, yarn over and pull up a loop. Ch 1 and work 5 sc into the ring (5 sts). When complete gently pull the tail to close up the ring and sl st in the first ch. Pull the tail more firmly now to close up the ring.
Round 1: 2 sc in each st. (10 sts)
Round 2: *(1 sc into the next st, 2 sc into the next st), rep from * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to first sc. (15 sts)
Round 3: *(1 sc into the next 2 st, 2 sc into the next st), rep from * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to first sc. (20 sts)
Round 4: *(1 sc into the next 3 st, 2 sc into the next st), rep from * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to first sc. (25 sts)
Round 5 (the left sides of the arms of the star): Change to a 2,5 mm hook. *(Ch 14, begin in the 2nd ch from the hook and sl st into 2 ch, 2 sc, 4 hdc, 4 dc, 1 trc, jump over one st in the base of the starfish and sl st in the next 4 sts), rep from * 5 times.
Round 6 (the right sides of the arms of the star which should mirror the left side): *(1 trc into the first st on the arm, 4 dc, 4 hdc, 2 sc, 2 sl st, finish by sl st all the way around the outside of the left side of the arm and the sts on the base of the starfish until there is one st left before the next arm (a total of 15 sl sts)), rep from * 5 times.
Put the two bodies of the starfish against each other, RS out and WS in, and sl st around the edges with the 2,5 mm hook.
Stuff each arm with yarn in the same color as you finish stitching around them (if you use fiberfill, it may show through some of the stitches in the starfish). Use the back of your hook (the shaft) to press the stuffing into the tips of the arms.
Stuff the middle of the starfish and shape it the way you want before stitching the whole starfish closed.
Secure all loose threads with a tapestry needle and it’s done.
